How To Measure A Cat For Clothes, Collar & Apparel?

How should a cat be measured for a collar, clothing, and other accessories?

Before purchasing any garments, clothing, collars, or accessories, cat owners are strongly encouraged to read this information beforehand. This includes both collars and accessories. By reading through the following information, you will be able to increase the level of sophistication that your cat possesses and improve your chances of finding the perfect suit for your pet.

There is a huge selection of brands and goods available for cats, and some of those products can have sizing criteria that are different from the ones we present here.

If your pet’s measurements fall in between two sizes, we suggest ordering the next larger size just to be safe.

COLLARS

It is important to measure your pet to get the best fit collar!

You can do this by using a standard measuring tape. Measure your pet’s neck where you feel the collar should rest. Do not measure too tightly.

Another alternative is to take a piece of string and place it around your pet’s neck where the collar should lay. Then measure the length of the string with a ruler or measuring tape.

A pet’s collar should never be too tight against the skin, so place two fingers under the measuring device to make sure the collar is loose enough for comfort, but not too loose to slip off.

Just a few minutes to take an accurate measurement will help ensure that you will be pleased with your pet’s new collar!

CLOTHES & APPAREL

  • Measure the length of the pet’s back from the base of the neck to the base of the tail.
  • Measure neck circumference.
  • Measure the broadest part of the chest. If the measurement is between sizes, we recommend going up one size. Also, if the pet has a stout build, a deep chest, or is overweight, we recommend going up a minimum of one size for proper fit. If the animal is long-backed, a smaller size is recommended.
